3 Potential Free Agents the Warriors Can Sign

Golden State has been one of the quieter teams in free agency this NBA offseason. So far, their free agent signings this summer, with the exception of bringing Kevon Looney back, are Donte DiVincenzo and JaMychal Green.

The former Sacramento Kings guard signed a two year, $9.3 million deal back in late June. For the most part, fans and people within the organization were delighted with the pickup. Since the Warriors signed DiVincenzo, it appears they’ll also be signing Green, the 32-year-old forward most known for his years in Memphis and Denver, once he finalizes a contract buyout with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Green has had a few seasons shooting in the high-30s range from deep, averaging over 40% from the arc in the playoffs for his career. He’s also a great rebounder, filling two team needs as a mobile, athletic stretch 4 that can play both ways reliably.

Despite these two pickups, there’s still plenty of unrestricted free agents left on the market, so let’s take a look at a few players Golden State could, and maybe should, potentially sign.

1. Carmelo Anthony (SF/Unrestricted Free Agent)
Yes– Carmelo Anthony is on the latter end of his career and we cannot expect him to be the bucket-getter that he’s always been known to be. But once a bucket, you’re always a bucket. Over the last three seasons, Carmelo has averaged 14 PPG on 43/38/85 splits. The Warriors would not ask much of Anthony in terms of minutes played and his role on the team. He’d be used simply as someone who can come in and give Golden State about 20 minutes a game and do what he does best– score. Anthony would be a great fit in the split action since he’s at his best with his back turned to the basket. While defensively he may be a defensive liability at times, he can be the player to fill in the absence of Otto Porter Jr.

2. Eric Paschall (SF/Unrestricted Free Agent)
Should Golden State be open to a reunion with Eric Paschall? In my opinion— yes. While he did have a down year in Utah, it was also only his third year in the league. Keep this in mind as well— we saw his potential as a player when the Warriors were at their worst over the last three seasons. He was a First Team All-Rookie selection that averaged 14 PPG. His 3 point percentage has risen to 37% since his rookie year, and is shooting 49% from the field for his career. Paschall’s physicality and athleticism would be great to bring back off the bench. Also, he was not just a fan favorite, but was a favorite within the locker room as well.

3. Dennis Schroeder (PG/Unrestricted Free Agent)
Golden State has been the perfect franchise for players that are looking to revive their career. We’ve seen it happen with Shaun Livingston and Andrew Wiggins— now sign Dennis Schroeder and add him to the list. Schroeder is one of the more crafty point guards in the league. With the veteran point coming off of the bench, it’ll relieve some of that on-ball responsibility of Poole. Schroeder has been willing to take a minimum contract before, as he did with Boston. For Golden State to bring in another veteran player who can give them possibly 10+ PPG on a veteran minimum— it’s not a bad bargain to gamble with.
