Iguodala Returns to the Golden State Warriors on Veteran Minimum

He’s back.

It was early Friday morning when Jonathan Abrams of the New York Times tweeted out the news that Andre Iguodala would be returning to the team in which he had won three championships with.

The former finals MVP agreed to a one-year deal with the Warriors for the veteran minimum, which should net him somewhere in the ballpark of $2.5M for the year. But for Iguodala it wasn’t all about the money. In the Abrams article the three time NBA champion spoke about the significance of closing out his NBA career in the place where he established his “legacy years.”

“Who would have thought I’d have the opportunity to go back to the place where I was able to have, whatever you want to call it, legacy years, in terms of the accomplishments, winning multiple championships, the relationships that I was able to build with some of my closest friends and teammates?” He added, “The relationship with the fans, the relationship with the Bay, the opportunity to end it here, was just something special.”

It came down to three NBA teams for the veteran forward as he narrowed his list down to the Warriors, Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers. But in the end, he chose to reunite with his favorite basketball player, Stephen Curry. He chose to return to the place in which he had built many strong bonds and relationships. He chose, arguably, the place with the better selection of golf courses. Simply put, he chose to return home.
