Iguodala shares text message about Curry with Ex-NBA player to Instagram
The eighteen-year veteran and fan-favorite Andre Iguodala couldn’t play in the Warriors Christmas Day game versus the Suns. He is still managing a knee injury from the wear and tear he’s taken over the years. But he somehow managed to find himself in talks across social media without having played a minute in the game.
The reason for this was because of his hilarious Instagram story a few hours after the victory the Warriors took against Phoenix. His story wasn’t anything complicated, just a screenshot of a text exchange he had with a former NBA player from back in the day. He did block out the NBA player’s name which would lead to many speculations from fans. The first text we see is Iguodala calling Otto Porter Jr by his “nickname” Otto Chamberlain. As fans, it’s funny to see that his teammates actually call him that and see the resemblances that we see through memes on social media.
Otto proved he could score, obviously not on Wilt’s level, but he sure could knock down timely jumpers from deep unlike Chamberlain. He would end up scoring seven straight points in crunch time to help Golden State expand their lead and eventually win the game. But the real conversation was the one after that, where the two talked about how Curry is guarded.
The unknown player said, “Never seen anyone guarded the way teams guard 30. (Steph) And I played with Beans (Kobe Bryant) and Gil. (Gilbert Arenas) Iguodala would text back that he agrees one hundred percent with what he said. Through the process of elimination fans can speculate who the player was, but obviously, if they played with Kobe and Arenas then they had to have played sometime in the 90’s or early 2000’s. Just the fact that he admitted that Curry gets guarded much differently than Kobe should be a revelation to some. Finally, an “old-head” so to speak, gives Curry his recognition as defenses are much tougher on him now than they were on the games’ best players in years prior.
It also shows the respect he has gained from former players on his ability to score even when double and triple-teamed once he crosses half-court. And we saw this through Iguodala’s eyes after he shared the funny exchange with his followers.
