Warriors Detail Plan for Wiseman’s Sophomore Season

Six months ago, James Wiseman underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus that he suffered on the court versus the Rockets. Since then, the first-year Warriors big man has been undergoing treatment to make sure that he’s ready for an on-court return later in this season. That hasn’t stopped the team from helping Wiseman get some work in, recruiting international retired center Dejan Milojevic. Dejan suffered an ACL tear at age 19, forcing him to change things up from an athletic force of nature to “analyzing every situation on the court” (per Anthony Slater of The Athletic). His head coaching experience produced a myriad of Serbian players now in the NBA, including some guy named Nikola Jokic, before he made his way to the Warriors.

Moses Moody is Off to a Great Start in Golden State

The obvious revelation for this iteration of Warriors preseason basketball is the emergence of Jordan Poole as an offensive weapon, and rightfully so: Poole’s expanded his game to be more efficient on some impressive volume, and aside from the numbers, he matches the eye test as a big part of the Warriors future. The big stories this season in terms of young guns aside from Poole’s Most Improved Player campaign will be James Wiseman’s return and second year, and Jonathan Kuminga’s adjustment to NBA-level basketball. Rather unsung in the discourse about the franchise’s future, however, is Moses Moody, the 14th overall pick out of Arkansas, who’s been catching some eyes lately.

Otto Porter Jr. Might be the Steal of Free Agency

Just before the buzzer to end the 1st half of last night’s preseason game against the Denver Nuggets, a driving Andrew Wiggins finds Otto Porter Jr. wide open in the corner. Two Nuggets players converge to try and defend the shot, giving Porter the opportunity to kick it to the wing on his left for an open shot from… the greatest shooter alive. When asked about the play during his postgame media time, Porter Jr. gave the response that you want to see from a guy who just joined this team: “They left Steph wide open. For me? OK. But, Steph? You’re going to leave him open? Bad idea, buddy.”

The Splash Nephew: Jordan Poole’s Admiration of and Similarity to Steph Curry

When D’Angelo Russell came to the Golden State Warriors in 2019-2020, the move was a polarizing one: How was a scoring point guard who couldn’t play much defense going to fit in with Klay Thompson and Steph Curry? Plenty of people were high on having a scorer as talented as Russell, now on the Timberwolves after the Andrew Wiggins trade, to shore up the team’s Kevin Durant-sized hole after his departure the year prior. Plenty of others were concerned he would be a massive defensive negative with not enough offense to boot, not even getting into his albatross of a contract. Whether you liked it or not, however, there was a period of time where D-Lo could have been the successor to Steph as the number 1 on the team a few years down the road.

Steph Curry’s Case as the NBA’s Best Scorer

The term “shooter” has become far too narrow of a description for 2-time MVP Stephen Curry. Even calling him the greatest shooter alive has a tendency to diminish what he’s accomplished on the basketball court, feats which include multiple scoring titles (something only 17 other players and only 3 other active players have accomplished, a franchise record in points (topping NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain for 1st in Golden State Warriors history), and an arsenal of shots that nobody else in the league can make. The most common comparison you see nowadays is talking about how James Harden is echelons higher than Curry as a scorer, with Harden even over Durant in some viewpoints. But does Curry have a case to be the best of the bunch? “Yes” is more likely of an answer than you may have originally thought.

Look at the Warriors Roster and Season-Starting Rotations

With the Avery Bradley signing to a training camp deal, it appears the Warriors are testing the waters for their 15th roster spot. With 13 contracts guaranteed and the team stating they’d be saving a spot for Damion Lee, the Dubs have signed veterans Langston Galloway and Avery Bradley to compete with young guns Michael Mulder and Gary Payton II for the 15th roster spot. Regardless of who gets the last spot, this Warriors squad looks to be the deepest since the year they went 73-9 with players who can play next-man-up left and right in the case that a key rotation player is injured. We’ll go position by position to see how the team’s depth is looking as the 2021-2022 season is right around the corner.
